Hyderabad medical student cuts testicle, dies by suicide

A 20-year-old medical student committed suicide in Hyderabad. The student is said to have stopped his depression medication, which is believed to be the reason why he resorted to this extreme step.

Deekshit Reddy was found unconscious at his residence in Yadagirigutta on Sunday, having lost a lot of blood after a cut in his testicles. He was taken to the hospital, but it was too late. Reddy lived with his mother and sister.

Students of Hyderabad's Gandhi Hospital were shocked that one of their classmates resorted to this extreme step. Deekshit Reddy is also said to have attempted suicide four years ago; he survived and was put on medication.

On June 4, Manasa, a final-year BDS student, was found burnt to death in her hostel room in Khammam.

In early February, the death of Dr. D Preethi, a postgraduate student at Kakatiya Medical College, in controversial circumstances created an uproar. Her senior doctor Mohd Saif is being investigated in this incident.

Earlier this year, two more suicides of doctors were reported in Telangana - 21-year-old MBBS third-year student M Sanath in March and Dasari Harsha, 22, a fourth-year student, in February.
